Custodian beaten in Holmesburg

A custodian of an American Legion hall in Holmesburg was beaten and robbed while cleaning up the place on Friday morning.

Two men wearing masks and gloves were waiting for the 58-year-old victim at Oxley Post 133, Torresdale Avenue and Decatur Street, when he opened a rear utility door at about 9 a.m. The bandits forced the worker back into the hall, pointed a gun at him and demanded money. They emptied a cash box and a jar that also contained loose cash.

With money in hand, the robbers punched and kicked the victim before fleeing through a door on Decatur Street. The victim called 911. Paramedics took him to Aria-Jefferson Health’s Torresdale campus, where he was listed in stable condition with possible rib fractures. Police did not release descriptions of the assailants. ••
